The COVID-19 pandemic has exposed a troubling gap in Armenia’s healthcare system due to the short supply of much needed medical equipment. However, Ayo! has been working constantly to deliver much-needed medical supplies to hospitals and clinics in different regions of the country. Most recently, it provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to 26 medical centers in Armenia’s Kotayk Province.
This is the first time the project conducted a distribution in Kotayk. Ayo! previously distributed PPE in Vayots Dzor and Ararat provinces.
The PPEs, which include masks, gloves, medical gowns and suits, shoe covers and thermometers will help keephealthcare staff on the frontlines safe and healthy.
Director of FAR’s Healthcare Program Dr. Hambardzum Simonyan said
PPE is one of the most crucial things healthcare providers need to do their jobs effectively. “Especially in Armenia's regions, doctors and nurses are among the most at-risk demographics because they typically care for thousands of people at a time," he said.
Ayo! Program Director Laura Gevorgyan reiterated. “Thanks to our generous donors and supporters, we now have this unique possibility to help our healthcare system combat the virus more effectively and keep our doctors as safe as possible,” she said.
Ayo!’s COVID-19 Emergency Campaign has so far helped to distribute 36,585 PPEs to medical institutions throughout Armenia.
