Among the colorful fabrics and varied threads carefully arranged on the desk in her living room, Telly Hovhannisyan, 33, smoothed the fabric of a yellow duvet cover she was making for a new order, adjusting the side corners here and there.
“This is my workshop until 3:00 pm when my kids get home from school,” she said. “Then I move to another room.”
Telly has found a sustainable source of income and her “hope of salvation” through our Support for Artsakh’s Displaced Project.
After she and her family had to flee Artsakh for the Sisian Region of Armenia, Telly was able to take tailoring classes thanks to FAR. We also enabled her to purchase a sewing machine, fabric, and basic supplies in order for her to launch her new business, Telly Textile.
While Telly had some experience working as a tailor in Artsakh, she needed to build her skills.
“I started attending sewing workshops in Sisian, which helped me to upgrade my skills and create a network,” noted Telly. She now receives orders for her bedding, tablecloths and towels from all over Armenia, in addition to Russia.
“Thanks to my business I can now help my husband with the rent and utilities, and we can save money for food and school supplies for our kids. We have to live and move forward,” she said. Her dream is to have her own sewing workshop in Sisian.
Help motivated dreamers like Telly build their livelihoods and support FAR today.
