Round table addresses problem of teenager trafficking in Armenia.


Recently, a Round Table entitled “Trafficking of Teenagers” was organized at FARs Children Support Center in Yerevan. This second of hopefully many discussions was conducted after the Center concluded from its experience that the problem of trafficking tends to increase in Armenia. FARs Children Support Center proposes that the issue needs to be professionally examined. Consequently, steps should be taken to stop this alarming development.


Participants of this Round Table discussion were Ms. Dzyunik Aghajanyan, Head of the RA National Committee on Trafficking Affairs, several Heads of Departments of RA Social Affairs Ministry, representatives from the RA Ministry of Justice and Ministry of Science and Education, and the Armenian Police Department. Prior to the Round Table, another meeting had been held at the Center, with participation of corresponding professionals from Yerevan Municipality’s Children Rights Protection Department and various Administrative Regions of the capital.


The Round table discussed a range of issues and those present expressed serious concerns related to the rapidly growing number of child trafficking in Armenia. It was decided to regularly organize such meetings sharing experience and available data to determine a appropriate course of action.
