Transforming Tavush farming through the first agro-drone

Spraying the lands and orchards of border villages is no longer a dream – it's a reality that has become possible through the "Digital agriculture in Tavush: agro drone" project, initiated and launched by the Tavush Foundation under the EU Local Empowerment of Actors for Development in Lori and Tavush Regions program. The recently purchased cutting-edge DJI T10 agro drone aims to revolutionize farming in Berd region of Tavush province through innovative and precise methods that enhance the efficiency and sustainability of agricultural practices.

Tigran Duryan, an agronomist and agro drone operator, talks about the benefits: "Agro drone is a game-changer. It's gentle on plants, perfect for slopes, eco-friendly, more affordable than traditional tractor spraying, and ensures the most effective use of pesticides." Having undergone intensive training, Tigran recently piloted the inaugural 'flight' of the agro drone in Berd, marking a milestone step in modern agriculture.

For farmers in Norashen, Verin Karmiraghbyur, Artsvaberd, Aygedzor, Choratan, and beyond, the agro drone services will mean a cost-effective and time-efficient way to spray their lands. But that's not all – to showcase the power of innovation, Tavush Foundation plans to organize engaging courses for high school students and farmers.

"Traditional methods no longer cut it for our region's agriculture. Our aim is to bring in innovative technologies for community development and fund stability. This is just the beginning of our agro-centric journey," says Lusik Aghababyan, Executive Director of the Tavush Foundation, adding that the main beneficiaries of the project are farmers cultivating a variety of crops, from grains, corn, and potatoes to legumes, perennial crops, grapes, and orchards.
