For Liana from Aygedzor, teaching is not just a profession: it’s a dream and a mission that gives her life meaning.
She spent years studying in Yerevan with one clear goal: to come back home and use her knowledge to help the children of her own village.
Today, Liana Yeghiazaryan, 24, is the first and only school psychologist in the cross-border village of Aygedzor in Tavush province. She works with children of all ages and says she can’t imagine a day without them. “It’s as important as being a doctor,” she says. “Doctors care for physical health, while teachers and psychologists nurture mental health, and it’s on that foundation that the next generation depends.”

Growing up in the village, she had seen how the villagers, particularly the children, struggled with fear and anxiety, especially during times of shelling. “Back then when we had shellings, some of us were scared of what was happening around us. But there was no one to support, so I decided that I’m going to be the support,” she recalls.
That quiet promise became her purpose. She studied hard, determined to bring professional psychological care to a place where it had never existed. “Pedagogy and psychology may seem easy, but in fact, they are among the most difficult, serious, and important professions.”
Thanks to FAR’s Mardigian Scholarship, Liana was able to study at the Faculty of Psychology in Yerevan's State Pedagogical University in 2020. For her parents, farmers in Aygedzor, the cost of tuition would have been impossible to manage. The scholarship lifted that weight, allowing her to learn freely and fully.

“The scholarship didn’t just pay for my education: it gave me the chance to build a hope for a future not just for myself, but for the children of my village,” says Liana who also volunteered at the FAR-supported Aragats summer camp, where she worked closely with children and strengthened her belief in the importance of emotional care.
Thank you Liana for becoming the change in your community!
