Empowering Dreams: The Transformative Impact of FAR’s Scholarships

Lyova Hovhannisyan starts his mornings with a backpack slung over his shoulder and his laptop in tow, heading to university as a second-year student in Informatics and Applied Mathematics.

His love for coding dates back to childhood, when at age 12, he wrote his first code for a robot game. In recent years, he’s become more immersed in web programming, particularly JavaScript. “Programming is like art, almost like painting. You come up with ideas and bring them to life in the virtual world through code,” he explains. “When you can combine your hobby and your work, that’s when you’re truly happy. For me, that’s about 60-70 percent of the time, and I enjoy it.”

Lyova’s laptop holds not just school assignments but the coding ideas and projects he’s working on while juggling classes, teaching, freelancing, and preparing to launch his startup in early 2025. “There’s no such thing as ‘I can’t manage.’ You just need to focus and get it done,” says the 20-year-old from Gyumri, who earned a spot in FAR's HoVeKim Scholarship Program in 2022 when he entered the university.

Lyova learned about the scholarship through his sister, Julie, a recipient of FAR’s Mathevosian Scholarship a few years earlier. “If not for the scholarship, I would’ve had to find a job to avoid burdening my parents financially. I remember writing in my application to FAR that my goal is to become one of the best experts in my field. I would be so grateful for the opportunity to pursue that dream,” he recalls adding that if he ever met his sponsor, he would proudly credit them for his academic and professional growth.
